Air Ameriscam Update — Plus a New Slant on the Funding Scandal

I like that, “Air Ameriscam”. Scott at Powerline uses it today while taking apart the Minneapolis Star Tribune for its sloppy, truncated correction of its 4-day old story, which was a rehash of the New York Times story, which it corrected over 5 days ago. He decides the following:

The New York Times correction, posted on the same day it ran its story, makes a serious effort to communicate the error in its original story; the Times seems to want its readers to understand. Why would the Star Tribune shorten and obscure the correction to a story it ran four days ago? Given the fact that the Star Tribune has pulled the Times story from its Web site, I think it’s fair to infer that the Strib regrets bothering with the story at all, and doesn’t particularly care if its readers don’t get it right.

Wish our local rag would care if their readers got it at all. That’s right, the Los Angeles Times still has not mentioned the controversy. Neither has the Chicago Tribune, and the Washington Post has not followed up with any more information since its single story last Saturday, the day after the NYT’s.

At least Michelle Malkin is still on it, with her weekly syndicated column Helping Al Franken find a swindler, available all over the place, including Townhall.com. Commenting on Air America’s reluctance to seriously address on-air this funding fiasco, she writes:

Curiously, Air America has shown little interest in urging law enforcement officials to track down Cohen and hold him accountable for “robbing” — Al’s word, not mine — an inner-city charity in the network’s name. Why is that? Franken says the subject of massive theft from one of the largest nonprofit charities for underprivileged residents in New York City is “boring.”

Yes. “Boring.”

Even O.J. Simpson still fakes occasional interest in finding his wife’s killer between his rounds of golf. (…)

But, now Michelle and Brian Maloney at Radio Equalizer are dropping the next Air America bombshell. The trail of massive debt doesn’t stop at Gloria Wise as the story on MichelleMalkin.com relates:

It’s not just the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls that’s knocking on Air America Radio’s door looking for lost money. According to court records obtained by Radio Equalizer/MichelleMalkin.com, another major creditor has been demanding that Air America pay up. The liberal radio network has refused to do so, despite a court order and scathing words from a New York judge overseeing the case.

Brian open up this way at Radio Equalizer:

What’s the whole story behind Air America Radio’s troubles?

For three weeks, we’ve wondered why the mainstream media simply refused to get to the bottom of the real scandal.

That’s why Michelle Malkin and I felt compelled to investigate the situation ourselves.

What we found paints a picture of a company that believes it can successfully pass the blame to others, while it continues with business as usual. [Emph. mine]

In an earlier post, Brian takes Al Franken to task for his indifference to the damage done to the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club via the loss of the $875,000 loaned to the radio network.

(…) So far, we’ve heard nothing from Franken as to how real amends should be made to the community center, for $875,000 in taxpayer funds that wound up in Air America’s corporate coffers.

He says the company doesn’t have the money to immediately repay in full, so why not take up a collection? How about hitting up rich, liberal friends?

Or, truly revolutionary, why not open the Franken family checkbook and help out, since it’s likely at least some of what’s in it was intended for inner-city children?

Franken hasn’t made the slightest helpful gesture. (…)

Ain’t that just like a bunch of bleeding-heart Liberals? Guess they are waiting for government to bail Air America out of its responsibilities. Isn’t that what they are always waiting for, government bailouts?

More, when there’s more — and there WILL be more on this, ’cause Michelle Says So! (db)
