Has the MSM Reported the Air America Scandal?

[Update: 3:20PM -- Disclaimer] It finally dawns on me that this might be important information. My brother-in-law is the President and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica. I have calls into him for any information that he might be able to relay to me on the Gloria Wise situation, but he is on vacation and is not calling me back. Hopefully when he returns we can sit down over some coffee and he’ll be able to give me some background on how these clubs are funded and what is involved when the national organization decides it is necessary to disenfranchise a member club.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of America do a lot of fine work with American youth, especially with disadvantaged kids in the inner cities. My wife’s brothers and her son went to the Santa Monica club, as did my son during his not-often-enough summer stays out here during the ’90s. What has happened in the Bronx club most assuredly is not indicative of how this organization is being run, and no one should take my slams at Cohen and Co. & Air America to be at all directed at the B&G Clubs themselves. [end Disclaimer]

Nope — Not Yet! — As of this AM:

New York Times – 0 articles,
Washington Post – 0 articles,
Chicago Tribune – 0 articles,
Los Angeles Times – 0 articles, [Of course I'm being generous here in calling our local kitty box liner a "major".]

What’s a group gotta do to get noticed around here?
Chris Muir is asking the same question in his Day by Day strip:

Much more at Michelle Malkin’s place.

BTW — Thanks Hugh, for the link today — I also warned John about hanging out with those Fraters guys — Do what you gotta do, ’cause this must be stopped! ;-) (db)

[Update: 11.50 AM]

If you go to the Gloria Wise Community Center website you will see a major menu item for their “Camp Air America”, whatever that is, or was supposed to be. You can’t get any information on it because NONE of the drop-down links under that menu are active, they ALL go to pages that have been removed / or never posted. Interesting, don’t ya think?

But, your Okie guide through the “Fever Swamp” found this item in Jonathan Larken’s Blog on the Air America website:

Camp

Maybe it’s just me, but some of the most memorable, formative times of my life have been the shortest. During high school, I spent six weeks one summer at the Brown University Summer Academy, studying Shakespeare and fantasy literature (actually, “The Fantastic in Literature and Art;” I still remember the title). There was the week I spent traveling from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi. And the week I spent in Soviet Russia, secretly meeting refuseniks in Moscow and Leningrad and passing on family messages from the outside. I remember those experiences more fondly and with greater clarity than I do entire years of my childhood.

Summer camp was the same. (…)

It taught me a great deal of self-sufficiency, which later served me well, especially when I went off to college. If you went to camp, think back on how much that time — and, yeah, some of it might have been tough or painful — ended up shaping who you’ve become. That’s an opportunity every kid should have. We’ll be talking about why for the next few weeks. Your donations (click on the “Camp Air America” ad to the left) have already started coming in. When we’re done, we’ll fill you in on what you’ve made possible. I hope you’ll be a part of it. Thanks. [Emph. mine]

Guess $850,000 + wasn’t enough?

Finding humor in the situation, blogger Buckley F. Williams presents his satiric take on the Blogger New Network:

Fellow fake news institution The New York Times today issued a bold response to critics who claim that they have not shone their “flashlight of truth” on the Air America/Gloria Wise scandal. To further cement their status as the “Paper of Record”, the Times has hired football legend and acquitted double murderer O.J. Simpson to lead an investigation into the matter. (…)

Front Page Mag.com compares the MSM fascination with Martha Stewart with their total silence on the Air America scandal.

And Captain Ed at his blog, Captain’s Quarters presented this cartoon by Drew Johnson, a CQ contributor.

“Air America” is currently the number 8th most searched term on Technorati. Shawn Hannity has just mentioned the scandal on his radio show. Hopefully he’ll showcase this on Hannity & Colmes.

As I like to say, more when there’s more . . . (db)

[More -- 1:45PM -- h/t: the Fraters gang.]

Maybe it’s a good thing that Camp Air America is missing-in-action, ’cause it probably would have ended up being something like this oneShudder! (db)

Not too many years ago the collective ignoring of the situation by the MSM would likely have put this issue to bed quickly. But as you noted (and documented well via your links), there is a great deal of interest in this story and it is being pursued by many of the best bloggers out there.

Great post and thanks for the link!
