After spending all morning getting ready to meet with clients, and then meeting with those clients, I get in the truck and make my way toward home in Santa Monica, and just before I get to the Sepulveda tunnel that runs underneath the LAX southern runway I hear on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show the following:

Earlier today the millennium bomber –Ahmed Ressam- caught with a trunkful of explosives on his way to blow up LAX on December 31, 1999, was sentenced to a total of 22 years in jail. The 5.5 years Ressam has already spent in jail counts against the sentence, and he could get an additional 3 years off for good behavior. He could be out by the time he hits his 53rd birthday, before 2020 rolls around.

In other words, Ressam can return to plotting to kill hundreds of Americans and their families while returning from Christmas travels in the prime of his life.

Geez! Some days it doesn’t pay to turn on the radio, read the paper — get out of bed! But, how ironic is that timing? I’m now driving by the airport, can see the main LAX tower that old Ahmed wanted to take to the ground, and am hearing about this Judge in Seattle giving the would be bomber a pathetically short sentence, while taking the time to lecture us and our government on his perceived perils of anti-Constitutionalism he asserts against the Bush administration’s handling of the GWOT. [Easy for me to say!]

The judge is Judge Coughenour, and God help us, he is a Reagan appointee. Just goes to show, a conservative is not necessarily a conservative. Hugh has Coughenour’s statement on his site, as well as a lot more info.
