The War in Washington — Winning is Imperative
My blogging association buddy, Laer, makes a comparison between the Ebola virus and radical Islam and comes to a comforting conclusion:
Similarly, the level of hatred ginned up by the psycho-imams is so virulent that it will surely burn itself out. Were it not so, Islam would have conquered the world long ago. And how is the Islamovirus doing at this point in its current infectious cycle? Howdy of the Iraq milblog Howdy’s Blog tells us we are winning in Iraq:
I hope that he’s right. However, an open letter to President Bush by Herbert E. Meyer [h/t John @ Sheep's Crib] points out that we may actually be winning the military conflict in Iraq at the moment, but that the “war against the war” that has been declared by the Left needs to be won by Bush, or the likelihood of our succeeding in Iraq, or elsewhere in the world, is in peril. Here is an excerpt, but do go and read it all — It’s important thinking!
With all respect, sir, your performance in Washington has been too weak. You are letting Congress get away with stiffing John Bolton, you cut a compromise in the Senate that got a few judges confirmed but that left the Democrats in a position to filibuster whichever future nominees they choose, you haven’t vetoed a single bill despite all the budget-busting pork that is mortgaging our children’s future, and while you are out giving speeches to Rotary Clubs about how to save Social Security, your proposal to privatize a portion of future payments is being strangled in its crib by the Democrats. Whatever may be the domestic effects of all this, the foreign effects are catastrophic. The terrorists in Iraq, their leaders who are hiding in caves, the mullahs in Tehran, the creep in Damascus and the nut in North Korea – they all see what is happening to your programs and your people, and the judgment they are reaching is this: if you aren’t willing to fight to the death in Washington, you aren’t willing to fight to the death in Iraq.
I finally made my decision to vote for Bush in 2000 because of what I learned in a biography that I had seen on the History Channel. I couldn’t stomach Gore, and was almost not going to vote in that election, as both candidates seemed to me to not be all there, to both be weak. The biography had a segment focusing on Bush the Senior’s weaknesses in dealing with staff, and about how George had been asked to come to D.C. from Texas to “clean house”, which he did. Took some real stones to come into the White House and take care of “Daddy’s business”. That convinced me that I not only had to vote, but that I had to vote for George W. Bush. Call it an Okie thing if you want, but after eight years of Clinton, I felt the time was right for a “Chief Executive” that acted like he knew how to run things, demanded action & excellence, and knew how to fire someone if that was needed.
But Meyer, creator of the DVD The Siege of Western Civilization, is seeing something that, if true, I find extremely disturbing. That, for whatever reason – worrying over a “legacy” — political exhaustion — personal doubt — the weight of all those soldiers’ deaths – Bush is not fighting hard enough for his domestic and world agendas and is coming off as weak in the eyes of his enemies, both here and abroad.
Time will tell, especially the upcoming epic battles over Bush’s Supreme Court nominees. We need to all give him our prayers and support — and he needs to take a damn the legacy approach and beat the Leftist Democrats into the ground. If he does that, we all win — and his “legacy” will be one of the finest in our history! (db)
