Deep Throat Revealed
Well, I’ve lived long enough to find out that former #2 at the FBI, W. Mark Felt, was the infamous “Deep Throat”, informant for Woodward and Bernstein during their investigations for The Washington Post’s articles that brought down the Richard Nixon administration.
I remember when I read All the President’s Men and also when I saw the movie for the first time. Both were exciting stories of the fear and thrills of discovering such devastating evidence on a sitting U.S. President. It disturbed me greatly, as Richard Nixon was the first President that I voted for, and I was so hoping that there was only smoke and political ambitions behind the allegations levied against him. He did the right thing in stepping down, and in Jerry Ford, he picked a successor that helped to heal the wounds of the American populace.
Unfortunately, once the press and the rest of the MSM discovered that they had enough power essentially to oust the President of the United States, they became in their own eyes the gods of information, committed to protecting all of us from . . . everything that they didn’t agree with. The MSM came full circle last fall with CBS’s insistance that the forged National Guard memos designed to unseat President Bush were true. Not having such a golden source as a Mark Felt, to destroy a U.S. President they were now willing to use information that they knew was bogus.
Funny about this Mark “Deep Throat” Felt. As it was discussed on FoxNews Big Picture this afternoon, as the number 2 guy at the FBI, delivering information from non-released classified documents to Woodward & Bernstein was the same type of crime that Nixon was being accused of committing. According to Judge Napolitano in his discussion with host John Gibson, if this had been revealed within the 5 year statute of limitations, Felt most certainly would have been prosecuted for obstruction of justice. Now he’s a 91 year old stroke victim, just glad to be relieved of the burden of keeping this secret. Another one of life’s little mysteries, mysterious no longer. (db)
