Well, after taking a look around the major newspapers today, it looks like the MSM is having a major case of the vapors over the election of Cardinal Ratzinger to being the next pontiff, Benedict XVI. Shoot, if that woman professor at Harvard got all weak kneed over Harvard president Lawrence Summers remarking that there might actually be differences between men and women, (did she miss out on the feminists’ “examine-your-own-vagina-in-a-mirror” sessions?), the woman probably had a stroke yesterday when the new Pope was announced!
In his AM post, Hugh Hewitt has done a wonderful job showing the level of shock/disbelief/consternation by the majors newspapers including the Washington Post, The New York Times, Boston Globe, the Minneapolis Star Tribune, and of course, our local “we-just-lost-another-5%-of-our-readers” Los Angeles Times.
The country’s opinion elite has become uniformly shrill and predictable, and the left margin of the political spectrum it represents, deeply hostile to all that Roman Catholicism as understood by John Paul II and Benedict XVI represents. It is hard to sell newspapers to Roman Catholics when your contempt for its tenets and leaders drips from every page.
Amen to that!
The Anchoress gives her thoughts on all the lefty blogs and the MSM that have refused to give this new Pope even a single day of “honeymoon” before piling on with a vengeance:
It seems a shame, really. The man hadn’t been pope for two hours when the lefty blogs went (literally) profane and disgraceful (and – of course – adolescent) and the press was hardlining their memes and caricatures of him.
Benedict XVI, it seems, is a relentless and remorseless hard-ass who takes-no-prisoners and wields a clumsy and undiplomatic sword, cutting a path of hard-hearted destruction no matter where he goes, and he will be a disaster for the church, and oppressor of women, gays, people of girth, people of mirth, people with brains, and people without, little puppies, small furry rodents and children he doesn’t like.
Or, something like that.
I have one thing to say to all of this – to all of the breathless ranting from the left and the grim, woe-is-us prognostications of SOME members of the press. It is this:
Fer cryin’ out loud, CHILL OUT.
Now, there’s some words of wisdom! She has lots more where that came from so be sure and check her out! Everybody take a deep breath . . . hold it . . . now let it out real sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow. Doesn’t that feel better? If you said no . . . then stick it! (db)
