Democrats Declare “Religious War” on Filibuster Busting GOPers

[Going Nuclear -- Countdown to Ground Zero -- Part 2]
Lest anyone on the center-right thinks that the secular humanists are going to lie down and let the Republican Senators change the cloture rule to allow Circuit and Supreme Court judicial nominees their rightful up-or-down vote by the full Senate, check out today’s editorial by the New York Times. The voices on the Left are calling this a Religious War, and maybe they’re right. When you look at the list of 10 proposed Circuit Court judges that the Democrats have filibustered, the common thread on all but one or two is that they are Pro-Life in their personal beliefs, although for most it can be shown that they have not previously ruled from the bench as pro-life zealots. The zealotry is on the Left, and it’s getting increasingly ugly! The NYTimes editorial excerpted here: [reg. req.]
Right-wing Christian groups and the Republican politicians they bankroll have done much since the last election to impose their particular religious views on all Americans. But nothing comes close to the shameful declaration of religious war by Bill Frist, the Senate majority leader, over the selection of judges for federal courts. [em. mine]
It is one thing when private groups foment this kind of intolerance. It is another thing entirely when it’s done by the highest-ranking member of the United States Senate, who swore on the Bible to uphold a Constitution that forbids the imposition of religious views on Americans. (…)
Senator Frist and his backers want to take away the sole tool Democrats have for resisting the appointment of unqualified judges: the filibuster. (…) But Senator Frist is determined to get judges on the federal bench who are loyal to the Republican fringe and, he hopes, would accept a theocratic test on decisions. [What a bunch of horse-U-know-what!]
Senator Frist has an even bigger game in mind than the current nominees: the next appointments to the Supreme Court, which the Republican conservatives view as their best chance to outlaw abortion and impose their moral code on the country. [Finally, the "money quote"!] (…)
It doesn’t get any clearer than that, folks. The “remove-all-religion-from-the-public-square”, “unborn-baby-killing”, “let-Terri-Schiavo-die” wing of the Democratic Party, (all of them now?) are declaring “religious war” on Protestants and Catholics in the United States of America by accusing us of waging a “religious war” against them. George Orwell had a word for this tactic in his novel, 1984, “DoubleSpeak”. We have to fight these people, and we have to win this Senate rules change! This is the most important battle for the soul of our country since the ending of Jim Crow!
Keep on emailing the fence sitters, and tell John (Benedict Arnold) McCain to shut the hell up and switch parties!
More SCBA postings on the Filibuster Rules Change:

“Let’s Go Nuclear” Sorry Laer, just can’t help myself! Cheat Seeking Missiles shows us the lefties’ game plan to defeat the cloture rules change and provides all the live links to email the Republican wafflers. I did so yesterday and will change tone and be a bit more strident and do it again on Mon.
John Schroeder at Blogotional is now really steamed over the new attacks by the MSM and the Left on a senator’s mere association with people of faith on the judicial issue.
The attack on Frist is not based on him saying something like “Jesus says approve these judges,” but rather on his merely associating with religious people and appealing to them as a demographic group. That is pure and simple bigotry. Such attacks are not religious tolerance, or tolerance of any sort, they are pure prejudice.
Actually, John Gillmartin at The Sheep’s Crib is keeping an updated link aggregation of all the SCBA articles by site by article name.

Ok . . . Here’s more. Lowell Brown at Hedgehog Central answers one of his comments and lays out point-by-point why the Republicans are “so prickly over judicial nominations”.
Sphere ItSo let’s be honest about this controversy: It’s about politics. And that’s OK. The political process is what drives judicial appointments in this country. Judges get appointed by the president who wins the election, with the advice and consent of the Senate. It is only Senate current rules that enable the Democrats to filibuster, not the Constitution, the Bible, nor any kind of holy writ.
