After She’s Gone . . . Fallout, Pain & Blame

Michelle Malkin takes Chris Matthews apart for his insensitive bashing of Terri Schiavo’s father on this, his most horrible day of grief.

I am so sick of the sanctimony of MSM bigmouths lecturing conservatives about the need for civility in the wake of Terri Schiavo’s murder. Look at what MSNBC talk show host Chris Matthews said yesterday on Don Imus’ radio show–

Go and read the quote, look at the pictures that Michelle has posted of Mr. Schindler, and ask yourself, wouldn’t you like to take a “hardball” and slam Chris in the head with it? Sheesh! What an insensitive a__hole Matthews is! Kinda makes you wonder what the Left really means when they say “We feel your pain.”

Matt at Stones Cry Out finds the non-participation of the leaders of the Right as much to blame for Terri’s situation as anything the Left might have done.

We can’t be content to show up at the polls every two years or call our Congressman or write out cute blog posts for our friends and family to gawk at. At some point the rubber must meet the road, and we must be willing to demonstrate that we care about these matters in a real, tangible way. A woman was murdered over the last two weeks, and our leaders took a walk.

There was an old Calvin and Hobbes comic strip wherein Calvin ponders the idea of modern, realistic superheroes. Hobbes coolly suggests that the heroes could attend council meetings and write letters to the editor. As Hobbes yells, “Quick! To the bat-fax!,” Calvin begins to see the problem. The same is true of us. I rebuke all calls for violence and disorder, but until we are willing – as sane, rational Christians – to stand in the streets and rebuke the Fred Phelps of the world while we rebuke the perverse and maddening culture that starved Terri Schiavo to death, then we can blame no one but ourselves.

For me, it is all much too fresh to try and analyze right now, as any conclusions that I might come up with would most likely be so tainted with emotion and anger that they would be incomprehensible. I do think that as bloggers for Terri we have had a bit of a reality check. Even I was thinking that if the Blogosphere could topple Trent Lott, humble John Kerry and get Dan Rather to step down as anchor at CBS, we could certainly help affect a positive outcome for Terri Schiavo. Well, now we know first hand how difficult, if not impossible, it is to sway the opinion of non-elected power brokers as evidenced by our esteemed judiciary.

Our challenge is now to figure out how best to hold to account those responsible for Terri’s killing, and for the unknowable suffering of her mother, father, sister and brother. (db)
