Still Trying to Keep Terri Schiavo Alive

2: 50pm — I am in client meetings and will update as soon as possible.

[Update: 12:10 pm]

The tube has been removed.

This has happened twice before. Now we wait to see if the Congress or the Supreme Court will intervene before the poor woman is starved to death. Michael Schiavo’s common law wife says he is distraught. I would be too if I had just begun killing my wife!

[Update: 12:08pm]
Terri told has is to happen, Terri cried!

[Update: 10:55am]
At 1:49pm, EST, Pinellas Circuit Judge George Greer refused to delay the removal of Terri’s feeding tube, which is to be disconnected despite the Congressional subpoena issued this AM. However, a Writ of Habeous Corpus was filed in Federal Court this AM on Terri’s behalf. Looks like we wait to see if the docs honor the Congressional subpoena.

[Update: 8:45am]
I am going to be interviewed on MSNBC today about 12:15, PST, on a segment about blogging for Terri & should be introduced as a member of the SoCal Bloggers’ Alliance. Also on the segment will be Jeff Jarvis, who often provides background information on blogging to this segment. Wish me luck! (db)

[Welcome Hugh Hewitt readers!]
[Heads up: Blogs for Terri]
The U.S. House of Representatives adjourned yesterday, after Senate Democrats, led by Senators Harry Reid and Ron Wyden, refused to allow a vote to move forward on the legislation passed by the House to save Terri’s life. In a joint statement by Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay they said:

House Republicans knew we had a moral obligation to act and we did just that last night. As Terri Schiavo lays helpless in Florida, one day away from the unthinkable and unforgivable, the Senate Democrats refused to join Republicans to act on her behalf.

Today, the same house committee that yesterday focused on steroid use in Major League Baseball is issuing congressional subpoenas to stop doctors from disconnecting Terri’s feeding tube. The doctors and personell at the hospice where Terri is cared for may, or may not, recognize the subpoena. If they do not, they could be found in contempt of Congress.

Also, an attorney for Terri’s parents will be asking a federal judge in Tampa “to block the removal and review the actions of state courts.”

Much pressure is being put on those Florida Senators deemed possible to make a position change if the proper legislation is put before them, see more on that here.

Pray, make phone calls, send emails. It’s not over yet. Will update throughout the day. (db)
