Townhall.com Reads to Check Out
Am deeply immersed in client work the last half week and have not yet had time to catch up on my reading and blogging, but here are a few items off the blogging path worth looking at.
Dennis Prager presents Part VI of his series, Liberal feeling vs. Judeo-Christian values: where he continues to define the underlying differences between conservatives and liberals within the context of the current culture war.
With the decline of the authority of Judeo-Christian values in the West, many people stopped looking to external sources of moral standards in order to decide what is right and wrong. Instead of being guided by God, the Bible and religion, great numbers — in Western Europe, the great majority — have looked elsewhere for moral and social guidelines.
For many millions in the twentieth century, those guidelines were provided by Marxism, Communism, Fascism or Nazism. For many millions today, those guidelines are … feelings.
Thomas Sowell presents a list of random thoughts which are quite interesting. Here’s one of them:
People who oppose the privatization of Social Security call it “a risky scheme.” But is anything more risky than turning money over to politicians and hoping that they won’t spend it before you retire? They have been spending the “trust fund” for decades.
Let’s see, 19 Muslim extremists hijack 4 U.S. airliners and manage to fly three of them into buildings full of people on 9/11, and now Fox TV network is in hot water because its series “24″ has the protagonist fighting against “Muslim Terrorists”. Joel Mowbray brings it all home with CAIR condemns ‘24′—but it won’t condemn Islamic terrorists.
It’s not considered polite to suggest that some American Muslims might not be with us, but there is too much evidence to ignore in the name of political correctness. The radical Islam we are fighting is not found only in places like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, but right here inside our borders.
Virtually ignored by the entire mainstream media last week was a groundbreaking 67-page report issued by human rights group Freedom House, which detailed the poisonous contents of Saudi-funded and sponsored materials found in prominent American mosques.
On mosque library shelves were vitriolic Saudi screeds urging Muslims to, among other things, completely dissociate themselves from the “infidel” society, including refusing military service and citizenship. Other materials encourage Muslims to “curse” Jews and Christians, and still others encourage outright violence.
You might really want to read this one all the way to the end, think about it and email Fox with some support for the show’s producers.
Diana West recently received her copy of Eurabia by Bat Ye’or, in which is explained why Europe is in imminent danger of becoming a Muslim continent before the middle of the 21st Century.
Few of us have the long-view vision to make sense of the sweep of history as it smokes past our eyes; Bat Ye’or, as a historian of Islam, and, in particular, the dhimmi (the non-Muslim peoples who live as second-class citizens under Islamic rule), has precisely the laser-lens required. She also has the fortitude of the historian/gumshoe to wade through the stacks of articles, memoranda and conference declarations generated by something called the Euro-Arab Dialogue (EAD). Created 30-odd years ago at the instigation of France and the Arab League, the practically unknown EAD has provided structural and theoretical underpinnings to a Euro-Arab axis — Eurabia. These have fostered the political, economic and cultural bonds between Europe and the Arab world that Bat Ye’or maintains were designed to create “a global alternative to American power.” …
This goes a long way toward explaining the behavior of Old Europe — the heart of Eurabia — since Sept. 11. It also leaves a question hanging when The New York Times pegs Muslim immigration into Europe to a simple “postwar labor shortage”: Is that really all the news that’s fit to print?
She brings up the leftward bias in the New York Times reporting on these issues, indeed once again the entire MSM leans left, especially in support for states that are against Israel, and against the U.S. for being “for” Israel. This is not rocket science people — to be far left in America today is to be pro-European and pro-Islamists at best, and at worst, pathologically anti-American.
Doug Giles will wrap up this post, as I’m back to work. His column is especially pertinent to me right now as I certainly relate to his message gleaned from the tale of Jonah and the Big Fish!
I know this is not PC, but God will rock our world if we are avoiding our call. God has His ways of waking us up. Disaster comes to Jonah’s life not because of happenstance or demonic attack but because God is on the prowl. God is allowing all hell to break lose on Jonah’s world because Jonah is not taking care of business. God/life/circumstances will fight us if we’re blowing off what we were hardwired to do. …
If you have been stuck in life’s fish belly, feeling like there will be no tomorrow … relax … handle the discipline correctly … and the situation will, as with Jonah, vomit you up, out and into greatness.
If you like your Christian leaders with some spunk and more than a little attitude, you owe it to yourself to check out Doug’s columns. If you have young people in the house, buy his books for them! (db)
