This Okieboy had the wonderful opportunity to spend some time today with Mark Tapscott, Director of The Heritage Foundation’s Center for Media and Public Policy, whose blog is Tapscott’s Copy Desk and with Stacy Harp, who blogs at Media Soul. Stacy was kind enough to arrange this brunch with Mark at the Anaheim Hilton, capping the end of a busy National Religious Broadcasters Convention schedule for both of them.

One question that I had for Mark was, what is the probability that the “Fairness Doctrine” would be re-established, which would put a severe crimp in the political analysis shows that we all depend upon now on talk radio, cable news and the blogs. He said that this was not at all likely. I was unaware that he had already answered this question on his blog, as I had left the house this AM before he posted it:

A large and enthusiastic crowd of National Religious Broadcasters members cheered more than a few times yesterday as Federal Communications Commissioner Kevin Martin and yours truly made the case against restoration of anything resembling the Fairness Doctrine. I’ve met a bunch of super people here in Anaheim this week and am encouraged to find so many folks who love the First Amendment and are constantly wary of efforts to compromise it.

Mark also challenged Stacy and me by asking us why we blog, and if we think that blogging is just a current fad. I hope that I had a good answer for the first question, and I guess that we will see how many of us bloggers are committed to stay the course over the years. I personally see the potential for as much change and advancement in blogging as has been seen on the Internet so far. As the technology continues to evolve, it’s not too hard to image bloggers providing as much sight and sound as they do words.

However, there is still very much to be said for text, and the process of writing. I know that just having written so many words since starting this blog last September has already changed my life. It had changed what I do with my free time, changed how my mind is processing information, changed my ability to express my thoughts and ideas. If that’s not a win-win deal, what is?

Thanks again, Mark, for taking the time to sit down with us, for sharing some of your insights and discussing our dreams and ambitions! I have Mark’s and Stacy’s blogs in my aggregator and recommend that you do the same. (db)
