Your Children + Your Money + the Universtity = Leftist Brainwashing!
Yeah, that’s what you could call the “new math” in the 21st Century. Actually, it’s been going on for a long time, at least I can personally vouch for it since the early ’70′s. So excuse me for a bit as I’m gonna go off here!
rant/ I’m perusing the LA Times again this AM, and almost spew my coffee as I read the latest on Colorado professor Ward L. Churchill. I’m sure the blogs covered this yesterday, but I was heavily involved in client work and didn’t get to read that much. So what’s this sh……? The Times reports:
Angry and unrepentant, the University of Colorado professor who compared victims of the 9/11 terror attacks to Nazis gave a fiery speech Tuesday night, chastising college officials, calling journalists “punks” and refusing to apologize for anything he had said.
“I’m not backing up an inch; I owe no one an apology!” declared Ward L. Churchill in an address to more than 1,000 mostly cheering students gathered at the university’s Boulder campus.
Churchill, 57, is under fire over a paper he wrote after the Sept. 11 attacks, “Some People Push Back: On the Justice of Roosting Chickens,” in which he described those killed in the World Trade Center as “little Eichmanns,” comparing them to Adolf Eichmann, the Nazi credited with devising the logistics for the Holocaust. … “
That’s just lovely. Here we have an unhinged “Leftist” being paid by the people of the State of Colorado to proselytize secular, morally-reversed B.S. to easily influenced young adults at a public university. I wish that it could be said this was an isolated incident, no cause for alarm. But it’s not. It’s endemic to the almost totally leftist slant at most public colleges and universities in every state in the Union. I’ve posted on this theme before here, here, here and here.
It’s ridiculous to spend “your” good money sending “your” impressionable young sons and daughters to supposed centers of “higher learning”, and having them exposed to this garbage! It’s gotten to the point that I’m beginning to believe that taxpayer funding direct to colleges and universities should stop and be replaced with loans and grants directly to student or to student’s families, making the “end user” the actual “payer” of the service. At least there would be some direct accountability to those attending, and paying, for the education. Colleges and universities would have to believe that those professors receiving tenure would truly be an asset to them. It might even change the system of tenure, which may be a Jurassic concept and should be headed for extinction.
Look at this quote from one of the students, Churchill’s response to critics of the event, and the deceit of students surrounding the canceling and reinstatement of the professor’s address.
Afterward, Egan Lohman, 26, a graduate student, said he agreed with most of what Churchill said. “American policy has always been to do what benefits us,” he said.
Churchill has criticized the media, saying they have taken his comments out of context. The organizers of the forum told reporters they were not allowed to ask questions.
The university initially canceled the speech Monday after students supporting Churchill said they had received death threats. But Tuesday, lawyers for Churchill sought a court ruling to let him make the address. Shortly after, college officials said the students “had retracted earlier reports of death threats” and the speech went forward.
Let’s break this down:
- Students of this professor think that the U.S. acting in it’s own best interest is a negative thing.
- The forum organizers will not allow the press to ask any questions, why are they afraid of a free press?
- Student’s lied about “death threats” to influence the university’s decisions about allowing the forum to take place, and rescinded their statements when their subterfuge backfired on them.
It took me years to slough off the preponderance of the negative, anti-America, anti-religion, anti-family, anti-business, anti-goodness, anti-aesthetics, anti-, anti-, anti-almost everything that a bachelor’s and master’s degree got you in the 1970′s, even at a private school such as the University of Tulsa, certainly not a hot-bed of leftist activity then. I cannot even imagine what was done to the minds and souls of those who went to Berkeley, Columbia, University of Minnesota, et all during that time period, but something created the likes of Michael Moore, Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi and yes, John Kerry, and it wasn’t a truly intellectual, open-minded educational system! /rant (db)
[Update] Here some others blogging the Churchill event: Michelle Malkin, LGF here and here, and Powerline weighs in here. Happy reading!
