The Shame of Eason Jordan & CNN

Eason Jordan is the executive vice president and chief news executive of CNN, he chairs the CNN Editorial Board, is a member of the CNN Executive Committee and provides strategic advice to CNN’s senior management team. He also slanders the U.S. military when he asserts that he knew of 12 journalists who had not only been killed by US troops in Iraq, but they had in fact been targeted. That happened last week during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Hugh Hewitt notes that the MSM (main stream media) has been silent on this, and until last night, so had most of the bloggers. On his blog this AM, Hugh posts this key quote from a first-person account of his remarks:

“During one of the discussions about the number of journalists killed in the Iraq War, Eason Jordan asserted that he knew of 12 journalists who had not only been killed by US troops in Iraq, but they had in fact been targeted. He repeated the assertion a few times, which seemed to win favor in parts of the audience (the anti-US crowd) and cause great strain on others.”

It looks like this has turned into a “blogswarm”. Bloggers like La Shawn Barber are maintaining links to as many posts on this issue as they can find, and Hugh Hewitt is showcasing a list of blogs that have posts on this story.

It’s been years since I could stand watching CNN. My education about its anti U.S. bias came from watching many hours of CNN International in my hotel rooms while business traveling in Asia and Europe. If you get that channel with your cable or satellite package, check it out. It’s hard to image more anti U.S. bias than on good ol’ CNN USA, but there sure is!

Go to the CNN contact page and tell them what you think about their #2 guy and his lying about our fine military men and women who are serving so bravely in Iraq! (db)

[Update]

Captain’s Quarters is running its own updates to this story with information about some strangely familiar remarks made by Jordan in 2002, along with first-hand recollections of Jordan’s willingness to work with Saddam Hussein delivering Saddam’s propaganda to CNN’s audience.

[More Updates]

Captain’s Quarters has even more:

In yet another example of how Eason Jordan tosses around accusations without much supporting evidence — or any at all — the Guardian (UK) covering the News Xchange Forum this past November reports on accusations of the torture of journalists by American forces (hat tip – Peter Cook):

Plus he links to an LGF post where Charles states:

And please note: the problem goes much deeper than Eason Jordan. At the same News Xchange conference in Portugal, another CNN executive, Chris Cramer, told an audience that journalists were being “deliberately targeted for seeking out the truth.”

. . . more updates as they surface. (db)
