What a Day!
It’s been quite a day today and I have been so busy with client work that I have not had time to Blog. Now that it’s quiet, let’s see what we can find to discuss.
Mercy! Now there is a third conservative columnist who took money from the Bush administration without disclosing it. Michelle Malkin brings this to my attention at her Blog.
And three makes a trend.
One day after President Bush ordered his Cabinet secretaries to stop hiring commentators to help promote administration initiatives, and one day after the second high-profile conservative pundit was found to be on the federal payroll, a third embarrassing hire has emerged. Salon has confirmed that Michael McManus, a marriage advocate whose syndicated column, “Ethics & Religion,” appears in 50 newspapers, was hired as a subcontractor by the Department of Health and Human Services to foster a Bush-approved marriage initiative. McManus championed the plan in his columns without disclosing to readers he was being paid to help it succeed.
It must be a law of nature or something. Every time a party gets in power, someone down the line takes advantage and screws everything up. I sure hope that the Bush administration gets a handle on this type of thing and thoroughly cleans house, and soon!
Oh my! Powerline features a story about some in the Nicaraguan military trying to sell shoulder fired missiles to Islamic militants.
Apparently the rogue elements within the Nicaraguan army are Sandinistas, who recently have made a comeback within the Nicaraguan government, although they are still a minority. When the Sandinistas were fighting to keep control over the government of Nicaragua, John Kerry (along with quite a few other Democrats) openly supported them, notwithstanding their Communist leanings. Now they are selling highly dangerous weapons to terrorists. Just another reason why the American people were right when they didn’t trust John Kerry with our national security.
There are just too many important political posts at LGF today, especially about Democratic lunacy and Islamic terrorism, so just follow the link there and spend some time.
Captain Ed goes off on Michigan’s Weyco, the health care company that is firing workers that will not take a blood test to see if they are smoking at home, on their own time.
CQ readers may well ask, “Where does this intrusive, nanny-office mindset end?” It doesn’t end with smoking; Weyco also wants to force its employees to change their eating and exercise habits as well. They claim that smoking and obesity costs them extra money in health-care coverage, and if employees want those benefits — a reasonable expectation given Weyco’s business — then Weyco employees need to bend to Weyer’s demands.
Besides being a warning to avoid doing any kind of business with Way-Out Weyers, this should serve as an example of the same kind of treatment we can expect to get from a government-run health care system. Ted Kennedy wants the federal government to provide health insurance to everyone, and you can bet your last Krispy Kreme donut that once it happens, we will find all sorts of restrictions imposed on us for our own good.
OK, I know that there are many of you that are anti-smoking, I mean how could you not with all the government and private propaganda that has been thrown around for the last several years! But consider this, a company is terminating employees for engaging in a “legal” activity. What’s the next legal thing you can do and get fired from your job, read the Bible or something? Individual rights come with responsibilities, that’s for sure. If you smoke cigarettes, maybe you’ll die sooner than a non-smoker. Maybe your health insurance rates should be a little higher than a non-smoker’s, but to get fired? Think about it. Is this still America, “land of the free, home of the brave”?
Condoleezza Rice was finally confirmed by the Senate, 85-13, with two Senators abstaining. La Shawn Barber, an African American Conservative Blogger weighs in:
The first black woman and the second woman to occupy such a high position in a president’s cabinet, Condoleezza Rice deserves praise for remaining dignified and calm in the face of blatantly racist, envious and old-haggish attacks on her character and intelligence. She’s a better woman than I.
The Anchoress has really been busy today! She has a great article on the lineage of President Bush and an especial request for prayers for Daniel Gade an injured US Soldier, and for his family. It’s imperative to pray for all our men and women in harm’s way around the globe, but as the Anchoress so wonderfully puts it,
but I figure…if you have a NAME, then while you’re remembering our troops in your prayers, it couldn’t hurt to whisper up those names you know.”
Sometimes it’s not so much what you personally have the time to write, but what you have the time to read and pass on to others. Happy reading! (db)
