Naming the Enemy

Deacon at Powerline recommends Diana West’s article in the Washington Times as the must read of the day. That may just be a big understatement! The themes in her article need to be fully explored by the Blogosphere and the resulting analysis should be read by all freedom loving people. The question begged in her article — How to fight what we will not identify by name? We are told constantly that we are fighting a War on Terror. But is “terror” the name of our enemy? She answers,

… There’s no war on “terror” any more than there’s a war on car bombs. Neither term describes what animates the terrorists — drivers of car bombs, wearers of explosive vests, or wielders of butcher-blades. Invariably, it is Islam and the murderous, expansionist ideology of jihad that drives that extreme fringe you read about to the point of unspeakable violence. …

And we are unlikely to ward off the spread of jihad, dhimmitude and sharia law the world over — including the U.S.A. — if we know nothing about it, or, worse, know only apologetics about it.”

Go and read it all. Then, go and read Daniel Pipes and David Horowitz for a real education in Islamic Terror, and keep an eye on the breaking articles at LGF, the best compiler of Islamic Terror happenings on the Net as far as I’m concerned. Bat Ye or’s Eurabia is about the transformation of Europe into a cultural and political appendage of the Arab/Muslim world. Confused as to why our former Western European allies such as France, Germany and Spain seem to be against us more than they are with us? Perhaps they now see their future more intertwined with the Arabic states than with the Western World. Perhaps for some, like Spain, their cultural memories are just better than ours? Last week in the LA Times, they wrote about the rise of Islam in Spain and the return of the Moors.

It is not clear, however, that the group behind the mosque, followers of the Murabitun movement, shares that moderate sentiment. The president of the mosque foundation, Malik Ruiz, calls himself the Emir of Spain and has said Granada will return to its “natural origin” — Islam — after a 500-year interruption.

Even when the near-infinite goodness of the American heart is demonstrated, as in the immediate response of our private citizens, our public entities and our national government to the Southeast Asian tsunami disaster, the threat of the Islamofascists is not far behind. In Sumatra, the relief workers are warned that Indonesian terrorists might present a danger to them. These terrorists are radical Islamists. Christians are warned not to spread their own “Good Word”, or face possible death at the hand of Muslims in the area.

Many American Muslims proclaim that Islam is actually a religion of peace and inclusion. I would certainly like to see the Imams in the U.S. speaking out against the radicals in their midst, and calling for the perpetrators of Islamofascist terror around the globe to be disenfranchised from the religion of Islam. Until this happens, reasonable minds will have to make the assumption that there is not much moderation in the Islamic world. Indeed, we must conclude that our “enemy” is that most vocal branch of Islam, ten-million strong, that is rampaging and killing around the globe.

The 90-million voices of so-called moderate Islam are not just quiet — they are silent. (db)
