Condoleezza Rice – Tasting and Judgement
If you have ever watched Iron Chef on the Food Network you know the reference in the title. Condi had her first day of it today, and in this CNN report our extremely wacko, newly-reelected Senator Barbara Boxer once again showed just how little brains or wit she has by calling Ms. Rice a liar, although in a “nuanced way” using a very nurturing voice.
California Sen. Barbara Boxer questioned Rice aggressively before the panel broke for lunch, suggesting her loyalty to Bush and her mission to defend the war in Iraq “overwhelmed your respect for the truth.”
Rice bristled at the comment. “I have to say that I have never, ever, lost respect for the truth in the service of anything,” she said.
She later told Boxer, “I really hope that you will refrain from impugning my integrity.”
And John Kerry tried to put everyone to sleep with one of the most droll, pontificating question sessions that I have ever heard. (God, I’m so glad that he didn’t win the election — four years of that boooorrrring banality would be the end of me!)
Earlier, Sen. John Kerry, who is back in the Senate after his failed presidential bid, said he admired Rice and her strong relationship with the president, but he questioned whether the United States was doing enough to reach out to allies and to stop the Iraqi insurgency.
“You are going to be confirmed, and everybody knows that,” Kerry said. “Whether or not it is with my vote is yet to be determined. I have reservations.”
Maybe he’ll vote for her, before he votes against her? At least our other Senator from California has some class and good sense, as Diane Feinstein, in a show of bipartisanship, made the introduction of Rice to the hearing.
Finally, from Condi’s lips to our ears:
“September 11, 2001, was a defining moment for our nation and the world,” she said. “Under the vision and leadership of President Bush, our nation has risen to meet the challenges of our time. …
“Now is the time to build on these achievements to make the world safer, and to make the world more free.”
OK, guys and gals, step up and confirm her nomination and let’s get on with it! Time’s a wastin’. (db)
