The Debate

Kerry’s comment stating that President Bush “outsourced” the fighting in Tora Bora was a direct slap in the face of all Special Operations soldiers. The whole Afghan campaign is a classic “Unconventional Warfare” scenario. A UW mission is one where teams of Green Berets enter a denied area (Afghanistan) and train a rebel force to overthrow a rogue government. Our Special Forces soldiers in Afghanistan accomplished in weeks, what Alexander the Great and the Soviet Union could not accomplish in years. John Kerry is an idiot.

This was Hugh’s favorite e-mail on the debate. He also provides a great breakdown of all the questions / answers along with his own grades for the Qs & As.

I thought that Bush was on message during the entire 90 minutes, but I don’t think that he “put it away” like I was hoping that he would. It wasn’t the substance, but the style. Kerry actually looked good and didn’t come off as pompous as I thought he would, and Bush seemed like he was in pain listening to Kerry’s answers. Maybe so, cause I was!

Kerry’s items that rankled me most were:
1) the global test remarks, (Still wants world acceptance of US policy, seems very needy!)
2) dismantling of the bunker busting nukes, (OK, we are the only country to have actually used nuclear weapons in wartime, but it was necessary to save many US soldiers’ lives. I actually receive great comfort from knowing that we have ballistic submarines out there in the deep dark blue and that if necessary, we will deal harshly with the likes of No. Korea and Iran.)
3) his statement that he had more experience with foreign leaders than Bush, (those mysterious foreign leaders again!)
4) his insistence that he has been consistent, (How can people do that? Just look you in the eye, and lie.)
5) his references to Bush 41’s war in which we did not “go to Baghdad”, (as if this was a good thing!),
6) His bringing up Darfur, (nobody wants to get involved with Africa. If people think that Iraq is a mess, they can’t even imagine what going into Africa would be like. See the movie Tears of the Sun to get an idea.)
Update: Jonathan Last noticed that Bush “knows about the timing of the African rainy seasons. ” /update

7) His “summit based” approach to handling the war on terror, (Kofi Anan and the corrupt UN is Kerry’s panacea? Why does this guy NEED so much approval from the world community? In my experience, rich guys are kick ass, take names types. At least those that actually made their own wealth, instead of marrying into it.) (Sorry, ad homonym I admit, but I couldn’t resist!)

Can anyone have actually changed their mind on who to vote for? I think that undecideds will still be so, at least for now. Will be interesting to see what the rest of the community is writing . . . db
